Italian Automotive Industry Translations

Orange ferrari 450

Italy may not be the biggest car manufacturer in the world, but cars are nonetheless a relevant part of its economy.

Italy’s major car brands include Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, and Lancia. No need for introductions here. The names speak for themselves. Italy exports sports cars, supercars, and city cars worldwide, and many of them to the U.S.

In general, when it comes to large manufacturing companies, globalization is key. Designers may be based in Italy, whereas the production sites may be in Turkey, Poland, or even in the U.S.: this is what a standard international manufacturing business looks like.

In such a complex environment, clear communication becomes the leading force towards ensuring smooth operations and workplace safety. To add to the equation, engineering and manufacturing industry regulators have become increasingly demanding about the quality of customer-facing documentation.

Italian Manufacturing Translation Services

The manufacturing industry requires many types of translation covering different phases of the production process, from design to manufacturing and selling automobiles

In general, texts are very technical and need to meet certain standards.

If you are working with an Italian manufacturing company, your translator must be a skilled linguist and have proven experience in the industry.

Manufacturing translations into Italian may include :

  • Manuals (User Manuals, Service Manuals, etc.)
  • Safety documentation
  • Marketing materials
  • Technical brochures and specifications
  • Warranty documentation
  • CAD designs

At LingPerfect, we employ professional and native Italian linguists specializing in manufacturing to deliver 100% error-free documents when you need them.

Our professional Italian translators can help your team develop multilingual glossaries, Translation Memories and terminology lists for Italian speakers.

Italian Fashion & eCommerce Translations

Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Valentino…, we can’t name them all. Paris may be the style and fashion capital of the world but Italy is where many of the most famous luxury clothing brands come from.

Fame and luxury, of course, translate into money, and fashion is one of Italy’s biggest (and ever-growing) industries.

As was the case with the automotive industry, fashion is also a truly global business. Again, the design, manufacturing and distribution phases often happen on opposite sides of the globe and this means that translation is required.

Whether you need to translate an e-commerce website, press releases, or transcreate an advertising campaign from Italian into English, you need to choose a translation service provider who can grasp the subtleties and nuances of this highly specific industry.

Italy has always been a major tourist destination

According to the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization, Italy is the fifth most visited country in the world (the U.S. rank third). A hardly surprising result, considering that Italy has 58 Properties inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The need for translations has always gone hand in hand with the travel and tourism industry. The texts requiring translation may vary and often include:

A word-for-word, possibly even machine translation will not be acceptable.

At LingPerfect, we have Italian professional translators who are familiar with the language and style used in texts for the travel & tourism industry.

Facts & Figures About the Italian Language

A direct descendant of Latin and the Romance language par excellence, Italian is a rich and complex language.

Italian is spoken by about 85 million people in the world – in Italy and elsewhere – and it is an official language in Italy, Switzerland, San Marino, and Vatican City, with official minority status in western Istria (Croatia and Slovenia).

When translating from English into Italian, remember:

Italian translations are longer than the English source (up to 25%).

This is due to several reasons, including the fact that English words can sometimes be more specific than Italian words. Italian requires context and often uses periphrases (several words) to express a meaning.

Italian is more expressive and requires different levels of formality

As with other Romance languages (French and Spanish, for example), the Italian language can be much more formal than English.

Whereas English uses “you” in all sorts of documents, when translating into Italian, you may wish to resort to either “Tu” or “Lei” (formal), or maybe in some cases, the plural “Voi” is preferable, or the impersonal form.

It’s a matter of cultural sensitivity, and only an experienced, native translator can “feel” the difference and decide which is best.
